I read this a while ago, scary.

My browzer isn't doing the insert-links today, pfft.

Yes Means Yes blog, Nov. 12, 2009

The study was a large survey that was large enough to include enough serial rapists to come to tentative conclusions. (It's self-reported: men answering would admit to rape if actions were desribed not using the r-word)

The vast majority of the offenses are being committed by a relatively small group of men, somewhere between 4% and 8% of the population, who do it again … and again … and again
There's an age component. Someone who gets in the habit of raping often developed the habit in late teens.

Giving birth (giving life) should be a gift not an obligation or women and poor people are 2nd class by definition

they do important work and I hope get more attention to their approach as time moves along. The idea of positive consent is an important one and more open and forthright conversations about sex and sexuality in its many and various forms is healthy for individuals and would make for a healthier society overall if we can make it happen.

    •  This survey rings true to me (7+ / 0-)

that a small percentage of men commit the overwhelming majority of rapes.  I once unknowingly worked with a guy who was later convicted of several rapes.

His attitude towards women, and what he said, was so hateful that you knew he was off kilter, way past the average half-educated, once-divorced redneck worker's antagonism towards women that was more typical in the warehouse.

I'd like to think that rapists are distinctly evil people, not just teenagers who got carried away.

If so, the educational efforts this diary discusses should be tuned more to educating typical boys and men to prevent rapes by the deviants among us.

It sounds like there were a bunch of kids at the Stubenville party, any one of whom could have prevented those rapes.

that I think needs teaching/correcting in our society. As you point out it sounds like there were any number of people that could have put a stop to the evenings events had they the fortitude of their beliefs in proper behavior to do so.
