    I'm an old lady now. (Seems funny to say it--but it's true). And I grew up in Nebraska. West end of the state. Cow country.

    Everybody used guns. Hunting pheasants is a major industry there. Everybody had guns. I learned to shoot in girl scouts. My uncle worked for Winchester.

    But you know what? Carrying a gun around was weird. There was one young (probably late teens, early twenties) kid who did. He was a cowhand and always had a holster with a gun. People said he was nuts. They were worried about him. It just wasn't acceptable. It showed there was something wrong with him.

    Unless it's part of your job, it still means that to my mind.
