It's not like the tea party rallies were defying any existing laws.
Yah gotta admit, a buncha old folks waving banners, screaming, then going home to watch Dancing with the Stars don't threaten anything.

I went out to my share of Tea Party events in San Antonio, TX. There were some real wacko's out there. One event, we even had some Tea Party people hang out with we MoveOn folks to protect us from the crazies that thought we didn't have the right to be there.

    •  But you left out the "carrying guns" (1+ / 0-)

part of the "waving banners" description. The "guns" part would indicate a greater chance of guns being used than by, say, OWS, which had no guns.

at a political event starring the president of the United States,  or just one of the candidates for the position, carrying loaded guns...their butts would be in jail immediately.  Hell, our butts were put in jail for protesting outside the "free speech" zone set up by city mayors.  The Teaparty showed up at a political event with loaded guns, leaving one behind on the ground as a warning, and they walked away unscathed.  This is not a small matter.  What makes you think an old man with an itchy trigger finger and a load of hatred isn't dangerous?

This confluence of corporations, national security apparatus and police organizations is something we need to moniter as closely as we monitered the writers of the Project for a New American Century.  Focusing on the FBI is a misleading tactic.  The FBI isn't really the specific problem here.  Homeland Security is the very specific problem. Surely you've all seen the term, "congruence concept"  The “congruence concept” is a Homeland Security euphamism for the creation of a supposedly criminal pretext for investigation into First Amendment activities.  Suggesting that  OWS might be a terrorist organization would be an example of applying the congruence concept.
