fainting earlier this week, a consequence of dehydrataion caused by a stomach virus (December 15, 2012)

Clinton, 65, had been scheduled to go to Morocco earlier in the week to officially recognize the Syrian rebels but canceled the trip because she wasn’t feeling well. Clinton now won’t testify before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday about the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi, Libya, reports the Associated Press. The chairman of the Senate committee, Sen. John Kerry, reportedly “insisted that given her condition, she could not and should not appear” before the committee, Kerry spokeswoman Jodi Seth said.

Her doctors had advised her to rest.  Rest is the best way to allow your brain to recover from a concussion.

I've been concerned about her since hearing about her flu/dehydration and then the concussion on top of that.

I had a nasty one in November. (Probably E.coli O157:H7)
The next day when I was able to move, I went to the pharmacist and told him what was wrong. He said, "Pedialyte. Isle 9."

It comes in one liter bottles. The grape flavor isn't bad when chilled. Drink the whole bottle if you can.

a stomach virus going around in Nov.  She had to go to the ER and get IV's.  Several people I know got a particularly nasty form of stomach virus about that same time.

Different people have different immunity, recuperative powers, and stamina.  Don't forget that the Secretary had been doing a lot of traveling before she came down with the virus.  According to TV reports, the Sect. had mentioned being tired, and the reporter said that was unusual for her.

        •  It is such an obvious risk, though. (1+ / 0-)

If I was that rich and important, I would have a lot better health care. Every time I so much as sneezed, I would get a checkout.

Even if HC was on an airplane, I am pretty sure that they let you land anywhere if you have a medical emergency.

Not to be gross, but the fluids leave your body in an obvious way, so it is not like you have no reason to suspect that you might get dehydrated.

It is understandable for a private individual to get dehydrated, but a millionaire Secretary of State who is surrounded by aids? I don't get it.

...own ways.  Some people get medical care right away, others "tough it out" until they have to go to the doctor.

I know that when I'm really, really sick, the last place I want to be is the ER, especially in the middle of the night or on a weekend.

We really don't know what exactly happened to her or when it happened, or how quickly she went from being hydrated enough to being dehydrated.

She's a very smart woman, and no doubt if she had recognized exactly how ill she was, she would have gotten medical care.

I get the unflavored version and mix it with gatorade when I'm dehydrated. My husband uses this when he's racing endurance bike races.
