  •  I can't get over your basement (3+ / 0-)

    I built exactly one pond.

Whiskey barrels as filters using different-grade sand and gravity as filtration. Bamboo. Balanced no-muss no fuss, circle-of life and the 1920's house with the round rooms and the rattan ensconced bathroom.

I used the wrong fish too, just with the artistic tendencies.

The damn turtles grew up and maimed, tortured, and devoured the fluffy-tailed Koi. And then an errant heron showed up with his genes and his beak. And the the damn raccoon!

I like your way better. Hope.

Suspend disbelief. It's gonna get confusing as hell soon enough.

    •  We have been fortunate (1+ / 0-)

so far with the goldfish in the outdoor pond. There are several much larger ponds around the area, so we haven't been a primary target for fishing birds. Our little puddle seems like it would be kind of a tight spot for a heron with the house and trees nearby. But we did lose a couple at some point last summer. Mozart and one of the other composers disappeared without a trace. We blamed it on a bullfrog who had moved in before they went missing.
