  •  on the east coast where they all live (0+ / 0-)

250k is a median income. the examples they gave were valid - they don't qualify for financial aid so they have to put two kids thru college by paying for it, that's $120k right there and that's almost the whole salary after taxes, Brokaw mentioned a dependent parent, maybe in a nursing home, that's another $30k or so (they probably don't qualify for Medicare) and that doesn't even account for living expenses

unless you're in the situation please don't judge

    •  That's a meaningless noise (0+ / 0-)

There is NO WAY $250,000/year is "median" ANYWHERE outside of tiny, tiny enclaves of the top 5%.

The vast majority of people DON'T and CAN'T live at such rarefied levels. They DO depend on financial aid, loans, mortgages, every government assistance program they can find and qualify for (like Medicare, Medicaid, etc.), and they make tradeoffs and sacrifices, that the 250Kers could not possibly imagine. And they DON'T and CAN'T send their kids to gold-plated Ivy schools - state or community colleges for them, IF they get college at all. Nursing homes? That's Medicare/Medicaid and it means stripping the parent's assets so the family inherits NOTHING but debts.

Get a clue. Get real. ALL of you.

      If it's
      Not your body,
      Then it's
      Not your choice
      And it's
      None of your damn business!

where an average home costs $500k either, doesn't mean it's not true for the 'rarefied' ones that all do in a certain part of the state

so what if they don't send their kids to a 'gold plated' school, an ordinary college tuition is $50k,
so what if they make sacrifices others 'couldn't possibly imagine' that doesn't change any reality of what things cost

stop with the diversions and strawmen
