    I interpret his words "free market" to be an admission that  8 years of his "free market" Policies caused the country to head for a "Depression greater than the Great Depression."

    That's why he said he would abandon his "free market" Policies -- he was told that in order to prevent the country from suffering a 'depression greater than the great depression' he had to abandon the 8 years of his "free market" policies.
