  •  Will it be a Madmen win (6+ / 0-)

For the next four years do you think? And if so, what possible strategy can we the public use to have any influence on desired outcomes, such as preventing cuts to the social safety net?

I agree this seems like waste of what could have been a decent hand.

    •  This was the point of maximum leverage (8+ / 0-)

I expect all the futur crises to come out worse. In many cases, much worse.

    •  What Armando said. It will get far worse now. (7+ / 0-)

No one will stand up to the crazy people, except other crazy people.

This is what happens when one major party's express agenda is to burn all public governance to the ground.

There's TIME - months of it - to get good results for good people.

Also, I strongly believe no deal is acceptable to Republicans: they like sputtering economies. They love lots of suffering people. They want lots of war and the poor to pay for it. They openly want public governance at all levels to up and die...and democracy along with it.

What we are seeing is the logical outcome of a major party that is terrified of liberty and justice, dignity and prosperity for all.

The Republican base has bought into the notion that everything, even their ability to feel proud about themselves, is zero sum.

For them to feel happy, you - everyone else - must be afflicted, and many among them are happy to do the persecuting.

But...laws are in the way. Regulators. Over fifty years of customary practices.

To Democrats, the problem is we are lagging the rest of the civilized world.

To Republicans, the problem is we are civilized at all.

They just need to find a palatable way of either cramming it down our throats that they are robbing OUR Social Security Trust Fund because they can't afford to pay back the loans they took out to pay for the illegal and unconstitutional wars based on lies for oil (and/or whatever else they've taken/borrowed and not told us about)....

They need to find a way to coerce us into willingly ("for the sake of being patriotic Americans") give up OUR money in both Social Security and Medicare funds because they can't pay back their loans without bankrupting the government because of those illegal and unconstitutional wars based on lies for the sake of controlling oil reserves in the Mideast.

AND all without forcing their rich corporate and Wall Street and banking friends to fork over any tax money to cover those loans or refill FICA since they were the ones who directly benefited from all of these questionable deals and now they don't want to help the peons.

In their eyes, we are Soylent Green.  Disposable humans.  They want OUR money, but other than that, they don't give a rat's ass whether we live or die..., but they'd rather we die on the young side of retirement age so they don't have to pay back any of the money We The People contributed to Social Security or Medicare.
