    There are some Congressmen who need the Republican Party. There are some who really don't fit in it, and seem uncomfortable in any political party.

    While I don't think Rep. King should join the Democrats -- I don't want him in the Party -- he's obviously iconoclastic enough that (save for his chair assignments, which will keep him in) he could manage to go independent and be more successful, especially at the ballot box.

      next election in 2014. People are gonna be pissed on Long and Staten Islands. Truly, the GOP only keeps a House majority through gerrymandered districts (fact).

        ...2014 is a long way off, and people in his district will remember his yelling about this. He's created adequate separation between himself and GOP leadership on this issue, he's repudiated them on this issue, it'll be in the local papers and news stations that he's done so (and that's the purpose for the wide net of talking points he's throwing), he'll be fine.
