  •  Don't forget the Paterson Strike! (8+ / 0-)

The Silk workers strikeat Paterson New Jersey was a brave and ultimately losing battle fought by the IWW and Socialist-led workers. All the leading radicals of the era - Big Bill Haywood, Mabel Dodge, John Reed, Matilda Rabinowitz - came to support the workers but they were eventually starved into surrender by the bosses. Many of these same figures won  a fierce but little known strike in Little Falls NY a few months earlier but in New Jersey they came up against a political establishment that lacked progressive leaders like Al Smith and Bob Wagner.

Local activists and history buffs marked the centennial of the Little Falls strike last year. Here's hoping the centennial of the Paterson battle does not pass unnoticed.

If my soldiers were to begin to think, not one would remain in the ranks. -Frederick the Great
