that chained CPI and draconian cuts would DEFINITELY be a part of the current package have subsequently posted diaries saying, 'Never mind.'

It's as if those declarations never happened. Because while it didn't happen as they said it would ever since the Simpson-Bowles first meeting, they KNOW it's coming.

It's almost a mirror image of the 'Obama is going to take all the guns in his second term,' belief; this stubborn notion that he is bound and determined to torch the social safety net.

'You just wait and see...' so we've been told for 4 years.

Forget all the other false alarms, this is the real one. Now his Manchurian mission to severely cut Social Security and Medicare will happen in the next 60 days.

Then if it doesn't it will be 'let's wait and see what he does with immigration reform, he'll attach Social Security cuts somehow.'

I guess it will take for him to finally leave office, before he'll catch a break. In the meantime, nothing he says can be taken as true, only internet rumors that don't come true can be taken as gospel.

The choice of our lifetime: Mitt Romney, It Takes A Pillage or President Barack Obama, Forward Together.

a claim that we could never prevent the Presidents Chained CPI proposal from becoming law.

President Obama who has been offering the chained CPI as a bargaining chip quite consistently.  I doubt it was a big thanks to him that it wasn't included.  And therefore, the continued fear that it will ultimately be included in one of the packages seems quite reasonable to me, and not at all analogous to the fear that Obama is going to take everyone's guns.
