    Still,,
     a very slight rise in the rate...say to 7% flat, and raising the cap would go a . long way to making it more stable.

      SS trust fund, I don't think we ought to mess with the cap or the FICA rate.

      It's simple - we gave them huge tax cuts funded by borrowing from SS.  They need to start paying back.

      Then we can talk about the rest.

        This is true, then it's more than enough reason to:

        1. Raise the cap.

        OR, even better:

        2. Make ALL income (I'm looking at YOU Capital Gains) subject to the FICA tax.

        Frankly, we should do both.

        Raising the retirement age is stupid -- if anything, since employers are getting rid of workers who are over 50 years old, we should drop the age of eligibility to 50 for both Medicare and Social Security.

        If we did that there would be more jobs for young people.
