    contractor. Although I knew that abrading or burning old paint off of a building was terrible for you, even with a charcoal-loaded repirator, I went ahead and did several jobs that I really didn't want to be around. My father was a painter many decades ago, when they actually used lead-based paint. And God, was he a holy terror. There is no way I'd have been around a lead-removal crew, poor devils.

    I'd like to think, though, that my "impulsiveness" and occasional flashes of Soprano-like "violence" (mostly anger and yelling) were due to my Italian background, and not my ingestion of lead. (Though lead + Italian sounds like a truly lethal combo.) :)

    And speaking of "Italian," there are old theories about the decline of Rome due to lead pipes, of course.
