    ...and the number of violent crimes in Omaha has risen steadily since then - it seems to now be about 7 times higher than '67.

      I saw that.  The Omaha crime rate is also much higher than in Lincoln, Nebraska, 50 miles down the road, which didn't have a large smelter downtown.

      Twenty-seven square miles of Omaha were heavily tainted, including 15,000 residences and the largely black area of north Omaha.

      I'm curious now about the tri-state area of Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, where there has been 100 years of lead mining and there are still a couple of smelters operating.  There is a foundry in Alabama that still spews lead, violating the air standards, too.
