Oh Lineatus, nothing lassos my heart here like the diaries of humans who have lost their animal friends. I understand how much a pet can bring to your life---that connection between the human and animal world, a relationship like no other, whether it's a dog, a cat, a bird, or whatever.

I'm a dog person, and have loved and lost several in my life. But I just go right out and start with a new puppy that needs the excellent love my husband and I can deliver.  A puppy that will be ignorant of how much less his/her life could be, without humans like us.

And that is the charm of an animal, they don't congratulate you for being such a stunning keeper, instead, they just give back every ounce of love you've given, and then some.  It's a glorious thing.

This may or may not be right for you---to start again with a new bird.  But I have found that no matter the new dog I get, the ones I've loved and lost are still so in my heart, and they show up in my dreams too.  They have not left me.

In any case, my sincere empathy and condolences for the loss of your Kodachrome.  She was gorgeous!
