  •  Reminds me of something that happened with my (7+ / 0-)

daughter... When she was 3 she was in daycare for a bit while we were in a homeless shelter. I remember one day I came to pick her up and the daycare worker took me aside, all concerned. It seemed my daughter was having trouble managing the steps. She was still using the two footed approach and going down them sitting down.
I took a minute and thought about it, and then laughed. Her father is in a wheelchair. We use ramps, not stairs. We also live in Florida where most buildings are single story. She just hadn't had any (or rather very little) experience with stairs.
I told them to give her a couple of weeks, to watch the other kids and figure it out. If she wasn't improving by then, THEN I would bring it up with the pediatrician. Less than a week later she was running up and down the stairs at the same pace as the other kids.

Her brother being autistic I watched her development very carefully. There were no other factors of concern other than the stairs, even according to the daycare staff. As a matter of fact they moved her ahead a year in daycare because she was ahead in everything else except the stairs.
