    No matter what is done, reducing coal consumption is the only worthwhile measure of progress on climate disruption. Politicians can go on about renewable this and that, but if you don't see coal use going down, then global temperatures are going to continue to go up. If you can't fix something as basic as burning hundreds of millions of tons of coal every year, then you are pretty much signing a death warrant for the human species (and a lot of other species as well).

    I couldn't resist a slight "serve you right" feeling yesterday when I read the weather news from Australia. This complacent, happy little land exports over 250 million tons of coal each year. Hard to feel really sorry for them.
