I have thought a lot lately about the undeniable truth that had the 2008 bailouts been sold to the American people on the grounds of "Here's a GREAT way to not only guarantee the government gets paid back someday AND make a profit for our taxpayer money" (today the most-oft advanced defense about why we shouldn't be upset about TARP and all the non-TARP taxpayer money spent on corporate interests) our legislators would have been run out of DC on a rail had they voted for it.  Of course that ISN'T what was sold to us.  Any of us.  Especially if they had simultaneously admitted what has turned out to be the truth:  the average middle and working class American who needed help in 2008 because of the malfeasance of the financial markets got absolutely nothing of value in comparison.  All while the corporations that helped cause their misery are again making bank and still bitching they didn't make enough.

Taibbi was 100% right when he stated that this entire thing was built on lies to the American people and left us as a fiscal system no less vulnerable than we were in 2008.  The difference? Now liberal folks, who clearly care more about the outcome of politics than the outcomes faced by their neighbors, are making excuses they'd have never made in 2008 with a straight face.

...relief to read your extremely profound SANITY in the comment threads of this post.

I wish I didn't have to sound/appear so damn melodramatic in this response. But, it reflects my sincerest sentiments about this place. I'm growing more and more concerned about the outright tragic state of political discourse in this country, by the day. And, that DEFINITELY includes rapidly-growing apprehension about the state of political discourse in this community now, as well (perhaps even moreso)!

Thank you, a million times over, again!

Please, I truly hope that you'll write about these travesties, as much as your schedules will permit, in coming days and weeks. I'm going to be keeping an eye out for it.

And, since I hear this request pointed towards yours truly, more often than I'd like to admit I also fully understand that, in our limited daily schedules, and with so much bullshit going down in our society these days, if you don't have the time to write about this, or you choose to write about other stuff, I get it! Believe me, from my own personal experience, I understand!
