Jon Stewart is part of the problem with his both sides suck shtick.

If he really believed the GOP is a disaster why does he keep repeating this crap?

I mean he even ended the rant with it

And I'm not saying you're responsible for all the problems facing our country, but you sure are making them a lot harder to fix.
Why aren't you saying it?  I wouldn't say ALL but frankly ALOT, a MAJORITY or MOST of the problems our country faces can be directly laid at the feet of the GOP so don't be shy about simply saying it.  They're making it harder to fix BECAUSE THEY'RE FUCKING ASSHOLES.  You said it yourself Jon.
So this is what I mean.  This is just a simple down the middle, black and white, cut and dry, warm cup of what would Jesus — or any other human being that isn't an asshole — do?  And you blew it.  You blew it!
SO please stop with this balance fetish.  I love Jon but every time he does this it pisses me off.

    •  I think you are reading what you want to read... (14+ / 0-)

I thought he did say they were the problem.  They may not be all of the problem in this country because they are not responsible for cancer (but they are making it harder to fix), they may not be responsible for drug addiction (but they are making it harder to fix), etc...

I think you are looking for false equivalancy where it does not exist.

      •  Sorry no (8+ / 0-)

This has been a problem with Stewart for a while and came to a head at his National Mall rally which was supposed to be a satirical slight at the so-called Tea Party and ended up an opportunity to lambaste progressives for...caring?

you just are not all that familiar with Jon's schtick.  He is one of the most infuriatingly not partisan policial persons on TV.  He tries to be this non partisan centrist despite devoting an overwhelming amount of his shows to bashing the GOP.   He's done countless interviews where he rails about all the back and forth, all the sniping and he engages in this false equivalency both side suck BS all the time.  He even had a bullshit non partisan political rally a few years ago and squandered a great opportunity to get people engaged in the political process and voting for real change and against the GOP and teabagging nutsacks.

For someone who devotes so much time bashing one side and is politically savvy enough to know that a large majority of our problems rest at their feet, he simply refuses to take the logical next step of politically advocating against them.  If they're such fucking assholes why won't you advocate for their removal via the political process?  Is it because they give you so much material for your shows?  If you're gonna bitch about them then get off the fucking pot and do something about it other than bitching.

    •  I beg to disagree (14+ / 0-)

Sorry, but IMHO just because Stewart said 'a lot' instead of 'a majority' doesn't mean he plays the 'both sides are guilty' game.

He occasionally (rightfully) zaps Dems for being shmoes and/or hypocrites, but 94.5% of ire is (rightfully) aimed at the GOP, aka Fox News. It's the mainstream media who peddle the 'both sides' crap - last night's segment included a soundbite from (I think) NBC's Brian Williams saying exactly that.

Stewart was STEAMING FURIOUS in the segment over what those GOP reps had done - there was absolutely NO winky-wink mugging in his delivery. The last time he was that outraged was when he did an entire show on how Afghan/Iraq vets are being screwed over by (again) the House GOP.

      Hey righties: Haah-ha!
