    In order to tell an effective fabrication you need to include details but you need to make them obscure enough so that you don't give away the lie.  Did the guns all have to be personal weapons?  Did the diarist have to specify the make of the gun. The diarist also narrowed down the time frame and added the unnecessary detail of the type of plane   Not to mention the detail about the Alabama National Guard unit that no one bothered to check to see if such a unit was stationed in Fairbanks at the time (primarily because the other details already gave away the lie).

    I am fond of a good tall tale.  I think the above story could be very humorous - but only as a tall tale and not a lie.  That's not cool and is not helpful to any rational discussions about gun control.
