    a summit is a good way to get a lot of political capital at low cost, which he could then leverage into pushing the pipeline approval, or making it go down more easily. I believe this sort of behavior is called "greenwashing."

    If environmental activists are willing to accept a meaningless summit in exchange for ramping up tar sands production, then Obama's right to believe that the environmental movement can be treated the way you would treat a puppy when it acts up: with a pat on the head and a dog biscuit.

      and the first action of all attending should be spent watching this:

      Then they should start organizing a global effort to convert our energy system from petroleum and coal to solar and wind.

      It can be done.  Failure to do so already runs the risk of global chaos over the next 25-50 years.

      Free markets would be a great idea, if markets were actually free.
