  •  We all get stuck sometimes (7+ / 0-)

I've even written a GUS diary about it before. Oh, wait, maybe more than one! Besides, perfection is overrated.  :-)

    •  Seriously... (7+ / 0-)

did you write this with me in mind?

      "In a rut."

      "In a holding pattern."

      "Hitting the wall."

      "Drifting."

      "Out of ideas."

"Finding it hard to take the next step."

      "Same sh*t, different day."

However you think of it, the result is the same: you're stuck.

We've all been there, at one time or another. It might have been in school, in the workplace, or a relationship. We might've been working toward a particular goal, and for whatever reason, plateaued at some point before reaching it.

      •  Experience is more universal than we realize (6+ / 0-)

When I say "we've all been there," I'm not kidding! Well, some folks are lucky enough to skip this, but most of us aren't. It's recognizing it and learning to have a different response to it that helps you break out of the rut.

I'm a big fan of CBT to nudge things along. The more aware you are of what's going on---the more mindful you can be of both causes of your behaviors and the effect they are having on your quality of life---and the more deliberate your responses to them, the harder it is to allow yourself to stay stuck.

    •  But really, I grew up as a second-hand (6+ / 0-)

smoker (several smokers in the house for a while), but never smoked, myself. So the GUS relative to smoking really doesn't resonate with me. But the diaries are GOOD and thought-provoking a lot of the time. Which is why I continue to stop in, tip, sometimes rec, sometimes even comment.

I appreciate that you're all here. So

      THANKS!!

      •  You're always welcome here! (6+ / 0-)

There are other GUS regulars who weren't/aren't smokers, so you are not alone in that. I think the topics and comments here often resonate with anyone who has struggled with behavior modification of any kind.

And sometimes it's just nice to be able to hang out in a supportive community atmosphere (no politics, no meta) and know you'll find interesting conversation and understanding for whatever you're going through. We're always glad to see you and are happy to have you add to the discussion whenever the spirit moves you.

        :-)
