    The death penalty is an option, but not a mandated, compelled punishment. It is not required by law for all cases meeting certain criteria.
    As long as it is an option and not a mandate, it will continue to be applied unevenly and often to those already disadvantaged. And I doubt many would advocate for mandatory death penalties.
    Thus, the death penalty is inherently unjust.
