  •  I get a full charge on the Volt (14+ / 0-)

in about ten hours at 110.  At a 240 chargepoint station, it takes about 4.5 hours.

My electric bill went from $80-100 to $130-150 after I bought the Volt.  I can handle that.

Put solar panels on the roof (I can't because my neighborhood is too wooded), and that cost obviously goes down...

Up to 96% efficient solar panels, that work just as well in scattered light as in the direct beam. There's your daily volt charge and some for the home as well, I bet.

Between that tech and the rapidly maturing tech of 3d printers placing profound self-source ability in the hands of every tom dick and mary, the next couple decades are going to have as much impact on the world as the invention of the internal combustion engine. Those panels are good enough to support permanent populations in space, the printer folks are beginning to look at the requirements for printing organic parts (starting with bones and heart valves), and now that they have confirmed the higgs boson if they can manipulate it that means launch into orbit without those huge rockets. Exciting times ahead.
