  •  Talk of secession has been going on (11+ / 0-)

for as long as I can remember, and I am 63.

Been wondering lately whether the break up of the United States might happen  as did the USSR, -- see Chernobyl, coup, etc -- been wondering if that  is  what we are facing  here when mega storms, drought and other climate disasters finally crash our economy beyond repair?

Recently the  President said something to the effect   that he was going to be 'studying' climate change after the first of the year, but he was not sure whether Democrats or Republicans would act.

We, the people must act to insure that they do.

Thousands have signed up for this:

Join the #ForwardOnClimate Rally on 2/17!
Crippling drought. Devastating wildfires. Superstorm Sandy. Climate has come home – and the American people get it.
At Noon on Sunday, February 17, thousands of Americans will head to Washington, D.C. to make Forward on Climate the largest climate rally in history. Join this historic event to make your voice heard and help the president start his second term with strong climate action.

The first step to putting our country on the path to addressing the climate crisis is for President Obama to reject the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. His legacy as president will rest squarely on his response, resolve, and leadership in solving the climate crisis.

    Details

We're still looking in to where the best location will be, but we've confirmed a Noon start time on the 17th. You can find or offer a carpool to D.C. by joining the Forward on Climate group at Ridebuzz.org, and you can find or offer personal housing in the D.C. area at a similar CouchSurfing.org group.* If you are bringing a large group, you may also find the Washington Peace Center's website helpful for finding housing. We will continue to post more details as they become available, including info on renting buses.

Just over a year ago, 15,000 people surrounded the White House -- and President Obama listened, delaying the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. This is our best chance to show the President how strong this movement has become since then -- sign up today.
