  •  It's the culmination (5+ / 0-)

of a generalized strategy on the far right designed to insinuate themselves into the "Conservative" movement and the GOP. The emergence of Teapartyism gave them the opening they'd been working towards for the last thirty years.

By 2010 the Far Right outfit Freedom Works was running the most of Tea Party operations.

Plus using the brand name for Far Right candidates.

      •  This certainly isn't true (0+ / 0-)

on a local level. The proliferation of local Tea Party outfits and their independent activity well beyond 2010 belies the complacent notion that they are nothing more than the product of astro turfing by national entities such as Freedom Works.

While it may be comforting to believe that Tea Partyism is simply the creation of RW big money, it is neither factually accurate or politically wise.

Local Tea Party folks are kidding themselves.

Their brand is a cover for Far Right groups, for Bircher Madness.

isn't relevant. "They" are the ones who provide the foot soldiers and votes in the primary fights. Saying "they" are being misled or scammed by the big money boys doesn't equate to there being no "grassroots" movement. Such logic would lead one to deny that there has ever been any such thing as a RW mass movement.

Call them suckers if you like but don't pretend they don't exist.

            •  One born every minute. Suckers exist. (0+ / 0-)

              Suckers exist. Sure thing.

But when you see a "Tea Party candidate" beat out a Business Republican in a GOPer primary, it's not them local folks picking him or paying his bills. It's the big Far Right money -- the Kochs, the rest of them.

The billionaires are fighting the traditional business interests for control of the Republican Party -- and winning so far.

Your Tea Party people are the tools/fools/whatever. It's all about propaganda and power, not serving the needs of these Tea Party civilians.
