  •  A lot of programs are like that, especially (9+ / 0-)

    insurance and housing programs.

    On the one hand, I do understand why people consider helping children a priority over helping adults.  Of course, there's the part where they blame poor children less than poor adults, but there's also the part where kids are more vulnerable to both immediate and long-term dangers if they're hungry, cold, homeless, etc.  I can't argue with that.

    On the other hand, I wonder why we can't value people once they turn eighteen, and whether it's really a good idea to incentivize childbearing as the only way to get insurance, or subsidized housing, or all the rest.
