  •  Back around 1980, a friend got her tubes tied at (7+ / 0-)

age 26-7.  She had a medical history of serious food allergies (albumen among others) and a family history of both breast cancer and early death from heart disease. I think it was the heart disease (her Dad dropped dead when she was 10, while he was only in his late 30s) that got it for her.

    •  I was at seven pregnancies in six years (8+ / 0-)

three carried to term, and I do NOT do pregnancy well. In fact, I do it so poorly that my husband told me that he would divorce me if I got pregnant again. I said not to worry, I'd shoot myself.

I was 28, I had managed to get pregnant on every single birth control method that did not make me a raving lunatic, and they still didn't want to do it. Wanted to give me an IUD, and spouse perhaps a vasectomy.

Um, no. I am the one who puked everything I ate for five months straight and has permanent damage to my body. I am damn well having MY system broken. (Not fixed. It worked very well. Broken.) In addition, we are non-monogamous.

It took my sister the nurse personally talking a doctor into it to make it happen.

When you come to find how essential the comfort of a well-kept home is to the bodily strength and good conditions, to a sound mind and spirit, and useful days, you will reverence the good housekeeper as I do above artist or poet, beauty or genius.

      •  It is ridiculous. (0+ / 0-)

My husband had a vas with his ex-wife--she'd had several miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy where the tube ruptured and nearly killed her ( she was hemorrhaging).  But he had to get her permission to have the vas--because she was the active duty military member. Oddly, she didn't need his permission to have the tuba. Of course she was 34 and had two kids by then while he'd not had any children.

        The world is crazy.
