    I've known multiple people who've gotten caught in the gears of the system. It's agonizing, not just a matter of turning over your life savings to a defense lawyer.

    I know two who pleaded guilty to things they didn't do just to get the nightmare over with. (Since they were guilty of other things, the injustice could have been worse, but still ...)

    I know someone who was a witness who got so much abuse from the prosecutor that he couldn't stay in school, and he was a witness for the prosecution (guess his skin color). Think you'll get a fair trial when they do that to your defense witnesses?

    Add to the problem the endless stream of cases of the prosecution burying evidence favorable to the defendant, which isn't even legal.
