Referring to the claims of children suicide bombers collecting firewood.

    •  I know that's comforting to believe, Al, (7+ / 0-)

but I know I have seen with my own eyes the body of the ten year old who peddled Stars and Stripes by day lying with the other sappers who were blowing up our base by night.

We assumed his knowledge of our camp made him valuable as a guide. Because we knew and liked him we wanted to believe he was coerced into joining the attackers. I hope it's true.

Or the two of my friends who were killed when the seven year old Vietnamese girl detonated the explosives strapped to her body(we didn't have the language suicide bomber back then) killing the teenage Marines gathered around her as she hawked Coca Cola.

It's ugly, but it's real. Perhaps you're correct that the reports from Afghanistan are fabrications created to bolster the unsupportable, but my experience teaches me not to assume so.

“Perhaps the most 'spiritual' thing any of us can do is simply to look through our own eyes, see with eyes of wholeness, and act with integrity and kindness.” Jon Kabat-Zinn

      •  Some things aren't mutually exclusive (6+ / 0-)

The enemy can be morally wrong for using children to blow up the invaders (us), and we can be morally wrong to be killing these children.
There isn't much about war that isn't morally wrong.
It's a good measuring stick to know when we shouldn't be there.

The real criminals are the demons who started these wars and continue to support them.

so when your thesis is challenged you simply say your thesis never applied in the first place, therefore it's still right?

You're the one claiming reports of children gathering wood were government lies. No doubt there's great cause for skepticism. But reality on the ground is more complex than people want to accept, which is why Bush's unilateral war of choice was such a monumentally bad decision to begin with.

I never changed my story at all.

Killing children is wrong. Period. It's against international law and its immoral.
I never said that the government lied about these kids, although I certainly doubt their story.
