is also bad. Because the country has a piss poor record in one area it doesn't mean that another area where it has a piss poor record is either less important, more important or in any way comparable. I'm in agreement with your major points, but I question why you want people to feel like hypocrites for also hating domestic gun policy?

My objective wasn't to dismiss domestic gun control laws, but to point out that it doesn't do much good when you are flooding the world in guns.
It's like being in a sinking boat and only bailing out your section of the boat.

The American political system is designed for special interest groups. This sometimes works, and sometimes it distracts people from the bigger picture - like this time.

Who's to say you aren't attempting to distract? Today is an historic day for gun control proponents. You could have advanced your advocacy just as effectively without even mentioning other "special interest groups." Especially here, where I have noticed that many users enjoy a rather remarkable capacity of chewing gum while walking.

Where you went off the rails was in the outright accusation of hypocrisy, which you continue to defend. There's another tack you might have taken. You might have said, "if children's safety concerns you please consider the plight of children in danger from US military presence." But instead you had to cry "J'Accuse" presumably for the entertainment value. Denigrating and passing value judgements is not the way to win hearts and minds.
