War has always been around.  But we have a new and unprecedented reason to be "increasingly gloomy about the future of human cilivization"

When you lay out the facts as you have done regarding the military industrial complex and you read about climate change and then you listen to our politicians it just seems like we are living in a bad movie.  How can this be America?  And then when you read about the Obama administration with its drones, illegal wiretapping, prosecution of whistle blowers, etc it seems altogether unbelievable.   But what I may find most frustrating is the average american's complacency and support for all of this.

As Hunter S Thompson so accurately predicted more than 10 years ago.

The towers are gone now, reduced to bloody rubble, along with all hopes for Peace in Our Time, in the United States or any other country. Make no mistake about it: We are At War now--with somebody--and we will stay At War with that mysterious Enemy for the rest of our lives.

The amount of violence and destruction due to the War on Drugs is also another reason for great shame.

Tens of thousands of people die every year from prescription drugs sold by for profit corporations and approved by the government as safe.  No one dies from marijuana.  But the bloody and costly war on marijuana continues.

a war on drugs, a war on marijuana, but will not go after banksters and torturers.

And our prisons fill, but not with those who really should be in them.
