    It's been a major topic of discussion amongst academics over 2012: outright boycotting of the most expensive journals means a lot of non-tenured faculty are risking their careers.

    The few links I provided were what I could quickly find. I've forgotten most of the ones I found about a year ago. For example, another voice is Donald Knuth, the respected computer scientist, who wrote a lengthy & detailed letter about the cost of access to academic journals back in 2003.

    Needless to say, Elsevier has become a dirty word in many circles.
