But a study of gun deaths showed that for every ONE shooting in self defense, there were TWENTY FOUR suicides, homicides and accidents.

This is a high price to pay for a theory of state power that someone holding firearms prevents tyranny.

All modern evolved states have seen massive decreases in violence over the last 200 years because they actually allow the state a monopoly of violence.

How to keep that state legitimate and democratically accountable is of course the key issue

The idea that individuals will do with firearms is a romantic fantasy with increasingly perverse and dangerous side effects

If you cannot you too have no valid argument.

Show me your "studies". DGU saved the lives of 4 people and it wasn't from governmental tyranny, it was from the governments failure to protect me from a gang of thugs.

Show me how the 279+ million unarmed individuals killed in the last century by their governments even equates to your "too high a price to pay".  That works out to 764 people per day, per year, for 100 years.

That IS the result of the "state having a monopoly on violence".

Violence of man versus man clearly has gone down.  We are less violent towards one another but the State is not.  In the UK, the reverse is absolutely true, there goes your "modern nation" theories. And ditto for South Africa.

If we wanted to save the most lives, we would be discussing how to curtail State sponsored violence against its own people and other nations.

Disarming nations would be the legitimate course of action here, they are after all, the biggest killers.  This makes your final sentence moot.
