  •  You did make that argument (0+ / 0-)

When you congratulated me for learning what you have always known.  Obviously the congrats only applies if I was previously clueless about the need for self defense.

And it is about the children.  Most people look at what happened at newtown and think we have to do everything we can to prevent that from ever happening again, anywhere.  Most people aren't thinking, phew, wasn't my state, and it's a statistical anomaly anyway that we are powerless to prevent.
I, for one, never again want see the pictures of the smiling faces, knowing they met their end via execution in their classroom.  I never again want to read about a mother insisting on the governor viewing the open casket of her baby filled with 11 bullets just to drive home the level of barbarism her baby was subjected to.  Most of all, I don't want it to happen to my child.  If trying to prevent that inconveniences people who think they should be entitled to defend themselves not just with a gun, but with a military style semi automatic weapon capable of committing massacres within seconds, so be it.  IMHO, of course.

We regulate dynamite and other exosplosives because of their destructive capabilities.  It makes sense that we would regulate guns that possess similar destructive capabilities.

By the way.  You can still buy guns in New York.  A lot of them.  In fact, you could legally purchase a whole arsenal in NY, and then use that in your battle against the evil authoritarians "taking all the guns away" (read: regulating the especially destructive guns to try and prevent massacres if school children).
