    I think in some ways our problem in this country is far worse than not being secure in their own selves or in their beliefs, or even understanding the difference between economic and political systems. It is complacency. "Fat, dumb and happy" as my mother says. Combine that with people not really understanding what is and is not in their own self interest, and you get--well, what we've got today. Sadly, I don't think it will be until the Walmart-ization of America is complete until people realize what is being perpetrated against them by the politicians they elect. At that point, things will have the real potential to get ugly.

      a hopelessness/despair about the future that must be escaped from via entertainment now, rather than an effort to learn about problems in ordder to help solve them.  It's exhausting for those who are struggling financially, especially those with children.  They know something's wrong, but they don't have the remaining time or energy to address it except with unfocused anger on Election Day.


      Before elections have their consequences, Activism has consequences for elections.
