I have played with poles too but I want to do bigger pieces of fabric. I think I get the pleating and was heading there next but sewing...oooohhh I am curious.

I took long pieces, cut width to diameter of pole - 14 inches plus an inch seam allowance. Sewed down the length to make a tube of fabric. (Hint: used wide stitch for easy seam ripping.) I pushed the fabric tube onto the pvc pipe, then wrapped string around it at 1/2 inch or so spacing.Tied string at top, and every four inches I wrapped, I pushed fabric, accordian-style, til all the length was compressed into about 4-6 inches at one end of pole. Sank that sucker into the vat for awhile(10 minutes or so). Took it out, left it a few days to dry, then unwrapped.

Okay,  I see this is a tutorial. Check on YouTube for Ana Lisa Hedstrom. I bought her two dvd set and she gives different ways to wrap and I am just working through them.
