    Yes, there are huge political problems, but the fact is that fossil fuels have enormous energy density-- a lot of energy stored in a small, transportable package-- and so are effectively crack cocaine for an energy-using society.  Highly addictive.

    Solar and wind do not have that transportable energy density on their own, so there are enormous (and fascinating and fun) technical problems associated with them.

    Were that not true, trust me, the Koch brothers would already have figured out sleazy ways to make billions of dollars from solar and wind power. :-)
