    And the last megadrought, as you mentioned, eventually stretched across the entire continent according to tree-ring data collected in the Southeast.

    Atlanta and other cities barely survived an average drought the last time. Y'all remember? The one where Atlanta almost ran out of water? IT WAS AVERAGE. No different than a dozen droughts that'd hit the Southeast.

    During Sandy I tried to make the case that the past will inform the future. I still make that case, except the past events will happen in the future on scales human beings probably have never seen. Perhaps our now-extinct ancestral cousins did.

    In Nevada you can buy a house overlooking an empty Lake Mead. The house has a pool. The pool was filled with water from Lake Mead.
