  •  c'mon, cut the crap (14+ / 0-)

my rural county here in eastern NM went over 70% Obama. so can that shit about who deserves what, OK?

We are officially in "nobody can remember it ever being this dry" territory here where I am, where the Prairies meet the southern Rockies.

Our mountain, the Sangre de Christo range of the southern Rockies, holds about 40% of "normal" snowpack and this is the third straight year it has been like this.  Without that snowpack,  the Pecos River dwindles to a trickle even way up high before the river has to cross the parched high desert on its way down to the Rio Grande in TX.

And the fuckwads in TX are actually SUEING New Mexico for failing to deliver enough water down the rivers to them.  Not that it isn't the sacred duty of New Mexicans to keep all water up here where it belongs,  but we don't have much choice in how much gets delivered to us.

So yeah, this is real.  Sunday afternoon I have to go to the  annual membership meeting  and stand up in front of my neighbors as their Majordomo,  elected to manage the distribution of irrigation waters and the infrastructure of our 178 year old irrigation canal, or acequia that their ancestors dug by hand and horse to water their crops.  They are not happy farmers.  Right now the entire Pecos River is not enough to fill our acequias.

All we can do is grab whatever runoff happens when it all thaws and eke it out while it lasts.   Last year we got to June, and that was it...

don't always believe what you think
