  •  entlord, I used to think a mandatory (11+ / 0-)

psych test might be called illegal search & seizure until I realized you have to pass a physical & mental test to join the Militia (aka US Military)

I think so long as there is a standard applied, maybe even the standard the Military uses, then in my view, a mandatory psych test would be great.

    •  in my day there was no psych test (1+ / 0-)

When I reported I was ordered to strip to briefs and socks and had a brief physical exam (Bend over and open your mouth) followed by a literacy/math test (with the E-4s retrieving the pencils after each question) and then I hadd to urinate in a cup.
That is all the testing I can remember but that was over 40 years ago at Fort Jackson, SC

the Air Force didn't make me use the cup until I'd been PCSed the first time....randomized for everybody in SAC.

Hadn't been for them I'd've not gotten an SS card as early as I did.... intake weighed us, measured us for sock-foot-height, checked our eyes and ears, and stuck us on a plane to Lackland....

but I do remember the cup because one of the guys had just urinated prior to this (and the guy supervising us laughed when he told all of us to relieve ourselves if we needed to)  and the E-4 in charge of the cups told us we would be retained until we could produce a satisfactory amount of urine, even if we missed the bus back to the draft board

In our state, Hawaii, all new police cadets must undergo a psych eval before being allowed to proceed.
