  •  There have been plenty of lies being told (0+ / 0-)

on both sides of this issue.  What we really need is a good dose of truth.

    •  You mean the guards were armed when they were not? (16+ / 0-)

The Washington Post fact checked the NRA ad. The guards were not armed.
The NRA said they were. They lied.
The issue in my comment is the ad. Which is a lie.
That's all it says. It's a lie. Case closed, as in the ad is false.

      •  I don't believe that their guards are unarmed (0+ / 0-)

I also don't believe that they would tell if they were.  Perhaps I am wrong, but I don't believe it.

        •  Why Don't You Believe That A School Run By (8+ / 0-)

Quakers in the highly urban, gun-unfriendly District of Columbia would not have unarmed guards?

Have you considered, on top of the whole Quaker-thing - the extra, no doubt exorbitant, insurance costs imposed by having guns around young children in a school setting and the fact that unarmed guards are cheaper than armed guards?

Also can you provide a verifiable lie (like the one in any NRA ad/solicitation saying Obama's coming to get your guns) from the gun safety side?

As far as I am concerned trying to ban one of the most commonly owned rifles in the country IS coming for your guns.  While it may not remove ones from peoples current possession, it is still taking them away from anyone might want one going forward.  The result is the same.  I also voted for Obama.  To be fair, I don't think Romney would have done anything different in this situation and I would have still voted for Obama had this happened before the election.

And to be honest I am more concerned about many of the opinions I've seen expressed on this forum than I am about Obama.

Are you a No Labels / Third Way bot, noway2 - uid 644067?
The lies are coming from the gun nuts. Lies and dead people.

      •  I have no problems with labels. I have no problem (0+ / 0-)

with calling things as I see them.  I don't accept things at face value, regardless of political affiliation and especially if the person or entity telling me has any sort of agenda.  I look at things from different perspectives and form my own opinions.  I don't believe that the NRA always tells the truth, nor do I believe they always lie.  They are a lobbying firm that is paid to do a job.  Everything they say has to be filtered through that lens.

In this case, I think if it were convenient to deny that the school has armed guards they would.  I think that Obama's administration has been making carefully worded statements, crafted to persuade action and discourage analysis.  While perhaps they aren't lies, I wouldn't call them truths either.

        •  When you said that New York (9+ / 0-)

asking for assistance for Sandy was "disgusting" because the new gun law was an example of "trying to push their stink on the rest of the nation" was that an example of the honest dialogue you say you admire so much? What part of that was designed to encourage analysis?

          •  I admit that and it was rude, offensive (0+ / 0-)

and it was in poor taste, made in a moment of irritation and I shouldn't have said it.

They can do whatever they want as long as it is within their borders and I don't care.  It is their right and people can choose to live there or not as they wish and live as they wish.  But I do have a problem with them pushing their views on the rest of the nation and a lot of the anti-gun agenda comes from NY and I do have a problem with them trying to tell me how I have to live and then wanting my assistance.

suffer one of the greatest disasters in American history and you're irritated? What difference does your personal irritation make?

If you find yourself making an apology again, here's some advice. Just apologize. I meant what I said I just used the wrong words isn't apologizing, it's piling on.

            •  I see ... YOUR assistance is conditional? (0+ / 0-)

How about ...when someone needs help, YOU HELP THEM! And no nonsense about New York or anywhere else passing laws that you don't like being an excuse for stiffing people and then acting like you are standing on some kind of principle. Unless the principle is being an A-hole.

    •  The main lie of the ad was that Obama opposes... (4+ / 0-)

...guards at schools.  Totally made up nonsense.  In fact his gun responsibility proposals includes school guards. The NRA is a BS gusher.

    •  The false equivalency... (3+ / 0-)
