I am a mental health professional, and IMO your diary is full of great examples of why we need to focus on reducing the amount of guns available (ie, make it harder to own a gun, and make it impossible to own certain types of guns) rather than focusing on keeping guns away from "maniacs".

Because here's some of the things I have learned after decades of mental health counseling/hospital work:

Nobody thinks it's going to happen to them.

People make mistakes - even HIGHLY trained people.

People's emotions sometimes over-rule their rationality.

    People under-estimate the risks.

People get sloppy in their routines.

    And lastly and most importantly:

NOBODY IS IMMUNE TO THE ABOVE. NOBODY.

I could go on and on, but you get my point. The fewer gun models available,  the more hoops you have to jump through to get a gun, the higher the penalties when you break whatever "gun rules" we have, the fewer gun tragedies.

    Lisa :)

All Kossacks are my allies, but if you can't express your thoughts in a civil and kind manner, I won't be engaging in a conversation with you.
