  •  The extremes are evident here at Lake Oahe in SD (4+ / 0-)

    which is actually a reservoir on the MO River.  In 2011 flooding it was brim full, inches from the Army Corps needing to use the emergency spillway (which flows overland) for the first time since the dam was built in 1964.  Now after this past years (and continuing) drought, the lake is nearly 25 FEET down.  Lake Oahe ain't Lake MI but it is big enough to see on a national weather map, so that's a lot of water.  And oh yeah the navigation industry wants our water to save their butts since the mighty Miss is also at all time lows.  As they say we all live downstream..
