    is already modern right-wing (libertarian/bircher) thinking.

    The 'original intent' of the founders was that the law should be flexible enough to stay relevant, despite changing times; the application of 'original intent' to legal interpretation was developed in right-wing think tanks (Koch $$, IIRC).

    It's no coincidence that such arguments generally lean right.

    And the structure of the 2nd amendment makes much more sense when you consider, as that article this past week (somewhere) mentioned, that 'militias' in the southern states at the time of writing were all about slave-hunting.
