to use words accurately.  read the writings of the founding fathers on the subject.  no "interpretation" required; it's very clear what was meant there.

the accepted use and definition of "regulated" at the time and in that context has bupkis to do with laws and restrictions.  that'd be the "shall not be infringed" part. (semi-snark)

The intent of the qualifier 'well regulated' is open to interpretation just like another right.
no, it really isn't.  if it were about laws and restrictions pertaining only to militia and guns, wouldn't the constitution have specified which branch of congress/state office had said authority and to whom the militia in question should report?  how would that jibe with the explicitly stated suspicions of maintaining standing armies?

anyhoo, it was about "regulated" as derived from "regular," like clockwork, running like a finely tuned machine.  that really isn't the disputed part of the amendment. srsly.

frankly, if we want to have a real and productive discussion on this subject, why does the meaning of "regulated" even matter?  the second is there; it isn't going away any time soon.  the only question is what to do now; where to go from here.

no one is seriously contending the government cannot in any way, shape, or form, limit gun ownership.  besides, it's the militias, not arms, that are to be "well regulated," according to the constitutional language.  so really, what * is * the point of hanging one's argument on the meaning of "well regulated" in the second?

All gone daddy gone. Funny that the only right 2nd amendment purists fight for is the right to kill, threaten and shoot people.
yeah, that's all we ever fight for.

can't we be better than that kinda crap?
