  •  choosing not to get the vax is your right (10+ / 0-)

but using a large platform to advise others NOT to get it under the guise of being "knowledgable" about safety and efficacy?

That would make you a nutter.

    •  I have mixed feelings about your post. (4+ / 0-)

It may be your right, but in some cases and in some situations the rest of us could choose to quarantine you if you were not vaccinated. Say in the middle of a virulent epidemic for which there was an adequate vaccine.

One advantage of vaccinations that is oft overlooked is that population vaccination tends to decrease the virulence of a disease among even the non-vaccinated. The threshold for this generally is in the 80-90% range. When it gets lower than this the virulence will increase in an outbreak, will kill more of the unvaccinated, but also will decrease the effectiveness of the vaccine among the vaccinated. We may well be seeing this during the current flu epidemic and have seen that during the sporadic measles and whooping cough outbreaks recently.

        rather than my post.  ;-P

I'm all in in vaccines, but i recognize the nuance of when you recommend it and when you mandate it.

As a pediatrician and as an advisor for hospital practice, i live this stuff, and I live the nuance.
