Bob Gibson used to host a charity golf fundraiser in Omaha every year and he brought in dozens of former players to participate. The crowds would hover around each green and tee off for a chance to get autographs. One year when Stan was playing he must have been at least 80. I was at a tee off, baseballs in hand begging for autographs when Stan got ready to tee off. Before he did he told the onlookers to join him in singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," whereupon he whipped out a harmonica and played the song while he simultaneously danced a pretty good jig. Then he signed some autographs and I was one of the lucky ones before he teed off. Those were good times and over 3-4 years I was able to get baseballs autographed by Koufax, Tommy Davis, Sweet Lou Johnson, Carl Erskine, Bill Mazeroski, Robin Roberts, Bob Feller, Ozzie Smith, Harmon Killebrew, Mudcat Grant, Sam McDowell, Gaylord Perry and a host of others. Watching Musial will always stand out in my mind.
