  •  True. Well said. (8+ / 0-)

It is my hope that guns are simply phased out of the human experience over time, to eventually go the way smoking is. I'm not adverse to a confiscatory law if it's necessary (as in the example you provided).

The problem with going with your gut as opposed to your head is that the former is so often full of shit. - Randy Chestnut

    •  I'm pushing for stricter licensing and permitting (5+ / 0-)

on all repeating firearms, with manually repeating firearms (revolvers, bolt action, pump, etc) having requirements only very slightly beyond where they are now, then with semi-auto weapons with somewhat less restrictive ownership and use requirements than full-auto weapons do now.

But those laws are, by definition, confiscatory. Even fines are confiscatory.

The political environment makes that impossible right now. Won't stay that way. The USA is changing politically at an accelerated pace.

Problem is, Congress is going to pass some very weak stuff this year. Mass killings will continue with no drop in frequency or severity. NRA will say, "See? Gun laws don't work!"

Your diary is actually part of the solution. That's rare and VERY commendable.

It rubs the loofah on its skin or else it gets the falafel again.
