Outlaw those eeeeevil drugs, outlaw those eeeeevil guns etc. They don’t have a bit more sense than the prohibitionists of the early 20th century. You’re just wasting your time when you try to explain to them that outlawing/prohibiting the sale of something has never done nothing but expand the black market for said merchandise, allowing organized-crime to have exclusive reign over it. You’re trying to explain something they can’t process. There’s some serious synaptic-pathway blockages at work. There’s a lot of shit that we should have learned from prohibition that they just can’t learn.
And on the political-analysis deal, it was Dean’s 50-state strategy that laid the framework for democrats to win in “08, and a HUGE part of that was Dean convincing republicans that Democrats wouldn’t take their guns (Deans 100% rating from the NRA was the ONLY thing that allowed that to happen.

    •  Guns are not drugs or alcohol (3+ / 0-)

The flaw in your argument is that even if such a black market sprung up, it wouldn't mean criminals controlled the banned "product". Guns are not drugs, and guns are not alcohol. Drugs and alcohol are consumed. Guns would still be in the hands of law enforcement, who would have the training and authority to use them.

The reason "they" "can't process it" is because it's a fatally flawed argument.

The problem with going with your gut as opposed to your head is that the former is so often full of shit. - Randy Chestnut

    •  Homemade booze is significantly simpler to make (2+ / 0-)

than homemade guns.  The parallel fails for that very reason.  It's a lot easier to set up a secret brewery the authorities don't know about than to set up a secret gun factory the authorities don't know about.

    •  Prohibiting murder doesn't stop murder, either, so (1+ / 0-)
